Full Moon in Scorpio Horoscopes
What's been pruned in the last 6 months, and what has grown in its place?
Hey witchy kids,
On my drive home a few afternoons ago, my breath caught in my throat when I noticed the extensive pruning done to the flowering trees that line my street. At first glance, it was a merciless hack job. No trace of color, each branch brutally sliced down to the joint protruding from its trunk. My partner had to remind me that they prune the plumerias at the same time every year, and in a few months they’ll be bursting with color once again.
As I faced my own sadness at their gnarled appearance, it led me to my unrealistic expectation of a year-round bloom. Something I often expect of myself, too. Despite their current grizzled appearance, the future of those lush branches depends on being stripped naked, to the point of bystanders wondering if they’ll bounce back at all; and which archetype speaks to regeneration more deeply than the eighth sign of the zodiac?
At the precipice of annihilation, just when you’ve counted her out, Scorpio’s bottomless resolve to prune without prejudice, her outright refusal to stay the same and prohibit future growth, is what dignifies the archetype of fixed water.
As we track our own seasons, this theme has been woven through the last six months since the New Moon of the same sign on November 13, 2023.
The house of Scorpio will always reveal what must be stripped away, cut back to the root, pruned with purpose; where each iteration of you grows back stronger, more aware of your power, and more willing to face yourself.
The true magnetism of Scorpio
Scorpio has not developed the reputation of sex goddess because of her “body count” or how many tantric workshops she’s been to… This is a being who has met themselves so deeply that there is not a shadow, fear, or desire that will cause them to avert their gaze.
People can only meet you as deeply as they have met themselves; masterful Scorpio is the ability to offer another person the gift of being seen in totality. That’s what we find sexy about Scorpio. It is not found in curves or allure, sultry voice or demeanor; it is power personified. The ability to see and be seen without reservation.
The shadow, of course, is a being who was taught they were “too much” and locked their power away. Scorpio risings are the most at risk of this self abandonment, and must therefore rise into their power like the soul’s agreement of the phoenix intended.
Scorpio-heavy charts carry the karmic burden of knowing not everyone is ready or will ever be able to meet them as deeply as they can. And when others reach their own threshold of depth within the gaze of your reflection, a wall is often built; a defense system fortified by the machinations of ego and fear. And beyond that moat of skepticism, under lock and key we find it is not anger, but longing; to go as deep as you go, to feel as deep as you feel. So please, do not lose the tenderness of your resolve. When the flowers wilt and the branch sags under the weight of stifled growth, can you do it? Can you prune? Here lies the lifelong work of Scorpio. In a world of synthetic modifications and half-truths, a masterful Scorpio is like a desert oasis. A reprieve of inimitable authenticity. Sound your war cry and see who rallies. Drop the mask and see who would still recognize the planes of your face in the darkest room.
Whether or not you have Scorpio placements, take a moment to consider the regenerative impact of this six-month cycle, between November 2023 and April 2024.
Scorpio rules the area of your life where you cultivate power through a willingness to face yourself without pretense. Each of us have a house (area) under the domain of every sign.
My prayer under this Full Moon in Scorpio (at its peak April 23 at 7:49pm Eastern) is if it feels big, let it. You are not too much. You are not “too” anything.

Each time we undergo the six month lunar transition from a New to Full Moon in Scorpio, it is a season of shedding and regeneration. What can you face more clearly now? Where has your power been tested and forged?
First house: each time you go through this transit, you become more and more yourself. Which is to say, each year you give one less f—k than the year before. Any masks, façades, or idea of who you “should be” ultimately melt away, but as the classical onion, trust the process of your un-layering. What layer was revealed in the last six months?
Second house: what have your finances taught you in the last six months? Have there been lessons in surrender? Have you had to abandon ship or trust the process more intensely? Lessons around giving and receiving may occur in this inherent oppositional force. What have you learned to value more deeply, perhaps as a result of what you have lost?
Third house: your truth is allowed to look different than last year. You are allowed to change your mind after receiving new information. These last six months have been a re-calibration of how you use your voice, accompanying a roller coaster of worries around worthiness, “will anyone listen…“ Or the power of your message was tested. To arrive at the threshold of this Moon with a voice you refuse to silence, is a win.
Fourth house: your home life could look radically different than it did six months ago. You may have been taught impermanence, or perhaps your roots have grown deeper as a result of any necessary trials and growth done as a unit. This time period has stressed the importance of showing up fully, all cards on the table under the same roof. How are you stronger or clearer for it? Relinquish control over keeping your house in order or living under a roof that’s no longer your soul’s definition of home.
Fifth house: these last six months have taken you deep into your own creative process, back to the drawing board, with certain projects abandoned or revived. Elizabeth Gilbert describes the relationship between a human and their creative genius: the entity that delivers us the ideas we turn into reality. She stresses the importance that we see them through, lest they find someone else to bring them to fruition. What ideas have come through clearly? Are there any that it’s time to surrender? Creatives don’t talk about the death process of an idea enough. But it’s essential fodder for activating true inspiration.
Sixth house: these last six months may have put your health through the ringer; physical or mental. I often think of this placement as the quote, “when our health is good we have a thousand problems, but when our health is bad, we have one.” Ideally you’ve reached a point of valuing your own upkeep to the same level of priority as all of your projects and obligations. Release the story that you come last, and insert yourself at the top of your to-do’s each day.
Seventh house: your relationships entered the forge, and karma was the blacksmith. Your annual lunar cycle of Scorpio will always serve to deepen or deter relationships based on their authenticity. Particularly on the tail end of retrograde, trust what has reached a natural conclusion, or celebrate what remains strong when you’re not bearing the full weight of propping it up. Relationships do not always need to be exhumed for closer examination. Even you, with the goddess of rebirth ruling your unions, cannot play resurrectionist in relationships that are well and truly done. Perhaps the last six months have brought you to the realization to let it rest.
Eighth house: here resides the stories of your psyche; like wild, unbroken horses with no rider, running rampant, trampling logic and reason if left untended. The lunar cycle of Scorpio is an annual effort to tame them, with a likely chance of getting kicked in the face along the way. Other people might not understand how you can leave an empty room with battle scars, but these last six months serve as a reminder that you can be your own worst enemy, or your greatest ally. The power you carry is the ability to choose… so hop back on the horse and claim your narrative.
Ninth house: these last six months, your dreams have been parroted back to you with a very important follow-up question: “How badly do you want it?“ This placement demands a laser-focused, unwavering commitment to the dream; if you cannot commit to a high speed pursuit with a full tank of gas, an idea simply won’t survive Scorpio in the ninth house. Take stock of what has been riding shotgun with you, pedal to the metal; they may be reaching fruition now. If you can’t access the obsession of Scorpio, that dream may be overdue for pruning.
Tenth house: tell me about the death and rebirth cycle that has played out in your career over the last six months… I know there’s been one! This is always the time of year when you either get a promotion, quit your job, bump up against an authority figure, or go deeper into your existing mission. You didn’t come here to climb a ladder or check off a few boxes… There must be an undiluted passion for the work you give yourself to, day in and day out. Your reputation carries more weight overtime, a name that is spoken with reverence, a reputation that lingers like heady perfume even after you’ve left the room. Trust that whatever has occurred in your career in the last six months, is in service to building your legacy.
Eleventh house: this is often the time of year when your social circle cleans house. On occasion, people will see themselves to the door, and it’s best that you not lose sleep wondering why. There is an implicit tension with Scorpio in the 11th, and that’s because if people can’t hang with the energy you bring to the table, you find out real quick. If not, they turn into energy vampires. As is the nature of regeneration, you may have found more like-minded people these last few months. The ones you don’t have to explain yourself or justify your eccentricities to. Prune and celebrate the quality of community that is deepening around you.
Twelfth house: if you questioned your reclusive energy over the last six months, look no further! A karmic cycle has been playing out in the isolation of your subconscious, and for someone who loves to have people over, it can energetically feel like there have been too many cooks in the kitchen. As your deeply held beliefs have been pruned, you’ve come face to face with ideas you’ve held that may not have been your own. It’s in your nature to require sovereignty of belief; that’s the source of your power. Take your time re-integrating and make sure you apply what you’ve learned.
To the moon and back (pun intended),
Ocean
4th house: Downsizing and moving next month. Letting go of so much stuff. Why did I keep it for so long or even come to have it in the first place? Getting rid of gifts seems cold, but that’s part of the pruning process.
Hand to heart 💜 🙏🏽 this really hit home. This full moon will be conjunct my rising & Saturn and boy following 2 eclipses, one conjunct my moon & opposite my sun/mercury, and the other conjunct my Mars 🥴! Yet, while I feel the intensity, I somehow feel I'm floating in the sea, moving with the waters, going with it. "Sound your war cry and see who rallies. Drop the mask and see who would still recognize the planes of your face in the darkest room." This was a rough lesson in the past 2 years or so, and the rawness of the process and the confrontation with the level of (in) authenticity of inner circles brought me to my knees and oh how that has inited a new level of power within me, different from what was. I'm ready to release and to embrace, or rather to jump onto whatever comes next! Happy Full Moon 🌝
