I’ve been wondering why my body takes Taurus season literally — slow mornings, long walks, digital detox, with generally fewer fucks to give. It’s been scary and lovely to press pause on the pace I’d been chugging along at. Beyond the materiality of our steadiest earth sign, I can feel its fixed refusal to be anything other than it is. My spirit has been marinating in this cosmic balsamic glaze of enjoying each step, not needing constant stimulation, counting blades of grass in the park, reciting poetry in my head until I can find a pen (or being unbothered if the words elude me).
Except, right now (for the next week or so) there’s a buzzing bee in our ears, an underlying current of electricity, restlessness, frustration, pinpricks. This is Uranus conjunct the Sun, opposite the Moon while it is full. The presence of Uranus in Taurus urges against accepting your surroundings at face value. Uranus shouts, “wake up and decide for yourself what this life is worth!”
How convenient, the constant buzzing of the world around us plays at a slightly higher decibel than our own instincts. This is by design. I’m reminded that it’s through the silence we cultivate by simplifying (Taurus) that we can hear the delicate notes of desire (Scorpio) being plucked inside our chests.
The status quo pulls a double shift to guarantee you will always be slightly too busy to listen to your heart. To sell the house and move, to quit and apply for an artist residency, to leave the lover with whom your libido is drier than a summer lake bed — if only your nervous system and attention span can survive tomorrow, and tomorrow’s tomorrow; but of course, without conscious effort to slow down, survival will never cede to desire.
To all my part-time artists, lovers, travelers, writers, poets: you say you don’t know what you want, but I don’t believe you. If I were to translate that statement it might sound something like, “to admit my desire would be to submit everything I am to the roaring maw of the unknown, and I’m not ready to sacrifice my comfort in pursuit of what is calling my soul forward just yet.” The desire is not unknown, it’s just scary to name; it takes time we are convinced we do not have. Let us point our pitchforks at fear, the theft of father time, and not the desire that moves the needle.
This is the same logic by which many people do not change their lives until they hit rock bottom. I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of needing something to go up in flames before leaving or changing. To wait until it’s caustic and hot to the touch. Here is the shadow of Scorpio; a dramatized state of reaction, more engrossed in the act of disintegration than recovery. You do not need to outsource your courage to chaos.
Can you steel yourself to simplify and reprioritize, so that the desire in your life isn’t folded in on itself, only to emerge as a cry for help in two or twenty years time? So that what you want is not an afterthought?
My mantra for integrating Taurus and Scorpio: may I always have everything I need, and may what I need always rest one foot outside my comfort zone.
Taurus season supports us slowing down, tuning out the noise, and dialing into the frequency of desire (whatever that feels like to you). This Full Moon is an annual excavation of wants, urges, shadows, and impulses.
What desires are being revealed in your life right now?
What is your shadow trying to teach you?
Are you learning desire by a new name?
Are your fears and paranoia being illuminated right now?
Are you ready to release old fixations that have been tying up your energy?
Channelled horoscopes to help illuminate resistance and desire in your chart right now, based on the house of 22° Scorpio:
Not sure where to look? Click here to read my post on identifying the house of a transit.
1st house: if you don’t recognize yourself right now, congratulations! You carry the karma of a snake shedding it skin, and you are not designed to maintain appearances once you have outgrown your surroundings. In fact, it probably makes your skin crawl. Why do you resist letting a chapter play out, letting yourself be pulled in a new direction? Your identity is molten, ever-changing, and I wonder if all you need right now is permission to enter a new stage of metamorphosis.
2nd house: it’s hard to ignore what no longer feels abundant in your life. Finding the motivation to complete tasks that you don’t want to do during Taurus season, is near impossible! This is a stubborn season. Stubbornness is your teacher. The areas of your resistance are also where a rebrand is needed. Where have I been conditioned to fight for crumbs? Why can’t I have the whole cake?
3rd house: there’s profound wisdom in listening more than you speak. Hearing what others say, and perhaps what they don’t, will often yield more information than asking a clever question. Consider what you’re saying right now, and what you’re not. Have you said your desires out loud lately, or do you feel like you’re about to combust? Name it, then listen. How the branches sway differently, how people move around you, or with you. Name, listen, name, listen.
4th house: examine your codependency on stories of childhood that keep you from being a sovereign adult. I don’t know who needs to hear this, but you are not your family’s therapist, guru, or blueprint re-maker. You are no more evolved or stunted than them. You’re just you, and your responsibility is to the life you’re choosing. What if your only responsibility was to reclaiming your energy and investing that into your own desires, so that you can be the inspiration for your family to do the same?
5th house: why are you so worried about the opinions of people who are more engrossed in their own lives to pay you notice? That is what it means to hold back your gifts from the world, for fear of judgment or rejection. Art is inherently exposing, but it’s the relatable threads of vulnerability that tie us together, that make art successful in the material realm. You cannot be so afraid of exposure that you keep your talent hidden. Come out from behind your perfectly curated grid and share what you’ve been working on. Let us see you as a work in progress.
6th house: you may prefer to work in sprints, but I’d like to push you instead to consider your daily acts of service to your desires. Begin today. Move the needle before 8pm. Find something and do it. You’re waiting for a lightning strike, and missing the sprout bursting through soil underfoot. Stop looking for the big signs and be the small changes, little acts of effort, daily investments.
7th house: here’s another hard pill to swallow — one person cannot be your everything. It’s essential to communicate your desires in real time, as if it is an ever-shifting, sentient extension of you. Do not let your feelings stew privately in your relationships. If you are craving something different, however amorphous, you owe it to yourself and the people closest to you to speak up rather than let it fester.
8th house: do you have low libido, or have you been expecting your body to respond to someone else’s definition of desire? It’s time to review pleasure by every name and definition known in your body and spirit. A spotlight is being cast upon your deepest yearnings right now, despite how much you’d prefer to keep it hidden or deal with it another day. Do not get lost in the cyclical loop of tomorrows; it is safe to speak it out loud today.
9th house: if you are reaching a point in your life, much like a hike with several crests before reaching “the top,“ it might feel as if you haven’t come as far as you would like, or now you’re feeling called in a new direction. If that’s the case, remember your soul is a tourist here, and your desire is the compass. If you’d like to change it, that is your birthright.
10th house: when you stand in your power, people either snap to attention or resist you at every turn. You might dig your heels in out of principle, “I worked so hard to get where I am, why would I leave now?“ but your ambition was never meant to be sated in one fell swoop; the house of Scorpio is the area of your life where you will shed many skins. When it comes to your career and ambition, resistance or repetitive issues can be a signal that it is time for a seismic change.
11th house: the hardest part about a metamorphosis, is peeling away all the sticky layers to realize you are now a stranger, an outsider, in many of the spaces that were once familiar. Take a sweeping inventory of your community, friendships, online spaces. Where do you still fit? More importantly, where have you outgrown? Trust that these revelations are only intended to bring you into deeper community elsewhere.
12th house: I’m not sure who needs to hear this right now, but if your fears and paranoia are being highlighted, think of this Full Moon as a juice cleanse for your subconscious. Your dreamworld might be going through a purge right now. Scorpio in the 12th is like the liver of the chart; it serves so many functions, and is a powerful organ. When it gets clogged up by fear or obsessions, the 12th house may struggle in its ultimate duty of manifestation and transcendence. Write your fears down and burn them tonight.
My prayer is that we each add a brushstroke of detail to our desires today. Feel free to share them here, below.
To the moon and back,
Ocean
11th house with my natal mars opposite at 22 degrees taurus. What you write about the 11th house is exactly what I am doing at the moment. I ask myself: does this friendship/community/job/social media dance with me? Or is it a constant struggle? It's a bit scary to leave the familiar, what if I become all alone?
