I was on the phone with my mom (a fierce woman with Sun conjunct Saturn) yesterday and the first thing out of her mouth was, “why are you still in a robe? Isn’t it 10am there? Pisces have no sense of urgency.” I laughed. You can’t know astrology and not laugh when people are the breathing embodiments of their own charts. Besides, how do I explain to a Saturnian woman that this mutable fish works hard, in order to live a soft life? That it takes iron resolve to not succumb to the demands of a rushing world?
Under a New Moon in Pisces, your only homework is to soften. If, at this very moment, you need permission to float aimlessly in your robe, steep your tea fully, not rush out of the house; to let your tasks bleed together on the calendar, to daydream, nap, or journal like you’ve got no place to be… Take it.
I can laugh with my mom about the pitfalls of Pisces, of which there are plenty, because I know the truth: to retain softness and sensitivity in a world built to harden our spirits is an accomplishment, not a shortcoming. Through solitude, we hone our hotline to spirit and bull’s-eye intuition. By refusing to rush, there is always time for our ceaseless creativity.
It’s important to remember Pisces is the only water sign that does not leave its element. Crabs come and go up the shore, scorpions seek out water in the desert, but Pisceans are always submerged. Of course it’s harder for Pisces to come up for air. Pisces are only slippery when you take us out of our element… when you drop us in a world that expects homogenous identity, social conformity, decades bound to the same desk; it’s why Pisces are prone to seclusion in old age, and why, despite boundless potential, are the most prone to burnout or dissolution of self — we desperately need the very same earth that we cannot survive on for long before returning to the sea.
Prominent Pisces placements thrive on their own terms but struggle to fit into palatable boxes. Our energy comes and goes in spurts. When in a lull or resting period, we seem “hard to pin down.” It’s like trying to explain the depth of the ocean to someone who’s been landlocked their entire life. Loving a Pisces is recognizing no matter how many times you visit the sea, there are unseen depths beyond your reach. Loving the Pisces in your own chart means surrendering the guilt and shame that accompanies not being fully assimilated into the world around you. The house of Pisces is where you must cradle your softness with a tender grip, allowing your understanding of this part of your chart to ebb and flow through seasons of clarity and confusion, genius and ignorance — often willful — when the urge to turn away from the harsh lighting of the world’s stage is strong.
I had a charming new client this week with a Pisces midheaven. (The MC rules purpose, career, ambition.) She felt like she never honed one singular work identity, and was unsure of what was coming next in her career. I said, “first we need to normalize your versatility. You are a vessel, a mouthpiece, and your inspiration is bound to change with the seasons.” There was instant relief on her face. It was almost as if she was expecting a slap on the wrist for not knowing what she wanted. In truth, a Piscean career experiences ambition as more primordial than professional.
Pisces placements carry fear that they are doing something wrong because their lives are less chronological in accomplishment, but that’s because one doesn’t swim in circles to cover great distances; two fish tied together spiral within and above. The journey of Pisces is not measured in linear mileage, but vertically, on an infinite y-axis of realms traversed.
You’d never walk up to van Gogh’s The Starry Night and say, “I sure am glad this artist woke up at 5am to paint everyday!“ The opposite is true. We often accept without hesitation the likely accompaniment of madness in a lifetime devoted to channeling. Which is to say, don’t go cutting off your ear, but sleep in if you want!
Routines and consistency are a necessary tether to keep Pisces in this realm long enough to be a channel for the art and mysticism that they came here to make. In the same way that some people only “eat for fuel,“ that is a Piscean’s relationship to the earth element. Sparingly and only when necessary.
Friendly PSA that we only have one planet in earth for the duration of Pisces season, (besides the Moon popping in and out) exacerbating the importance of having your own tethers and practices that ground you when needed.
A few other auspicious days to note (and the days surrounding them):
March 12, Sun and Saturn are exact degree 22° Pisces. The need to anchor and reality-check will feel strong that week.
March 17, Sun and North node are exact degree 27° Pisces. Are you honoring your dream? Are you surrendering and listening to spirit?
March 19, Sun and Neptune are exact degree 29° Pisces. Confusion is an inherent revelation. Trust that more information is coming. What can you reimagine in the meantime? Where can you redesign what you’ve outgrown?
But today is not about the compromise of earth, trade-offs or counterbalances — it’s about permission, awareness, space, and grace for the dreamer within you.
Locate the house of 9 degrees Pisces in your chart, and using the keywords below, write yourself a permission slip to honor your softness in that realm.
A mantra to be spoken, a spell to be cast, a reminder to be recited when the dreamer within you needs to be protected from a world looking for compliance, not creativity.
Example: for Pisces in the second house, “I have permission to believe that my dreams are worth investing in. That it is not delusional to trust my creativity opens infinite opportunities.”
Prompts to explore:
“I have permission to soften here when…”
”What my spirit is asking for in this area…”
”This part of me needs to permission to dream of…”

Pisces in my 6th house ♓️
“What my spirit is asking me in this are us to go with the flow, follow my energy. Do not create a structure you can’t follow but instead listen to your body and your intuition. They will guide you back to a good state: mental physical and emotional. You got this.”
Thank you my friend ❤️
9º Pisces is my 8th House! That brought me to, "What my spirit is asking for in this area is gentleness towards personal goals. Nothing happens overnight and I deserve the grace of remembering that." Thanks, Ocean!
